Our Commitment

Your data belongs to you. We built Sewciable to be a privacy-respecting alternative to mainstream social media. We collect only what we need to run the app, we never sell your information, and we never will.

1. What We Collect

Only what you give us directly:

• Account info: email and password (password is encrypted, we cannot read it)
• Profile info: display name, bio, profile photo, and links you choose to add
• Your content: posts, tutorials, comments, and photos you upload

2. What We Don't Collect

We do not collect:

• Your location
• Your contacts
• Data from other apps
• Browsing history
• Advertising identifiers

We do not build profiles about you for advertising. We do not track you across the web.

3. How We Use Your Data

• To run the app: show your posts to followers, deliver notifications, send password resets
• To improve Sewciable: we review aggregate, anonymous usage patterns (like which features are popular)
• To respond to you: when you contact support or report a bug

4. Who Can See Your Data

Your content:

• Posts and profile info are visible to other Sewciable users

Service providers:

Like all apps, we use a small number of services to help run Sewciable. We carefully selected providers that are GDPR compliant, independently audited, and align with our privacy values:

• DigitalOcean stores your photos and runs our servers (SOC 2 certified, GDPR compliant)
• OneSignal delivers push notifications to your phone (SOC 2 and ISO 27001 certified, 30-day data retention)
• PostHog helps us understand how people use the app so we can make it better (EU-hosted, GDPR compliant, anonymized by default)

These services only receive the minimum data needed to do their job. We do not share data with advertisers, data brokers, or social media companies. We will comply with valid legal requests, but we will notify you unless legally prohibited.

5. Data Security

• Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms
• All data is transmitted over HTTPS
• Our servers are hosted on DigitalOcean with encryption at rest
• We limit employee access to user data to only what's needed for support

6. Your Rights

You own your data. You can:

• Edit or delete any of your posts or profile information at any time
• Download a copy of your data (contact us at [email protected])
• Delete your account, which permanently removes your data from our servers within 30 days
• Opt out of all non-essential notifications

7. Data Retention

• Active accounts: we keep your data as long as your account exists
• Deleted content: removed from our servers within 30 days
• Deleted accounts: all data permanently deleted within 30 days
• Backups: may contain deleted data for up to 90 days for disaster recovery, then purged

8. Children

Sewciable is not for children under 16. If we learn a child under 16 has created an account, we will delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

If we make significant changes to this policy, we will notify you by email before they take effect. Minor clarifications may be posted without notice.
